The various sources use somewhat different language in describing the DLC coming later this month. Are they really going to be scenarios? As in set pieces BSM-style gameplay? Or are they more of the same gamemodes but just different maps?
It doesn't seem like auto-aim will be going away, since it was the first change the devs made to the core gameplay so its probably hard coded in the game engine, and while it reduces the skill required to hit another ship it doesn't entirely remove it.
Even the old tactic of evading fire by changing speed/course still works because the auto-aim will fire at the point where the ship would have been on its original course, rather than where the ship is now, and if you want to use the old method of actually leading your target this works too.
Not that I wouldn't like a host option for auto-aim, but it doesn't break the game in the way I first thought it would.
I just hope that the designers have absorbed the idea that choice makes for a more popular ($$$) game.
Leave popular modes like BSM in and ADD others, don't subtract.
Provide an OPTION for autoaim and other ways to affect challenge level. Mandating a specific skill level will always leave some either above or below that level. Single player games have variable skill levels for this very reason. Forcing everyone to play multiplayer the same way ignores that basic idea.
Dont feed the Auto Aim troll, Lord Blackfire. He posts this same crap in every thread.
Nobody understands what he is talking about considering there is NO AUTO AIM!!!!!!
On topic, I can't way for the new ACC Map Pack. I am enjoying these new units a lot. But some new maps with a bunch of ACC's will be a great addition.
Have they mentioned what ACC's are coming?
Crimson KG: mycoldman's response regarding autoaim -
"There is a focus in BSP on genuine tactical play, and this is now more important in ship-to-ship engagements than raw player skill in leading the target." http://www.battlestations.net/en-UK/content/demo-helpclarification
In short, they dumbed the aiming down. He says a lot more on this issue which you are welcome to read yourself.
What it boils down to is that the less skilled can point their guns at a target and they'll hit, unlike BSM, keeping a game closer when playing the very skilled vets.
"Scenarios" July 23rd?
