Philippine Islands Layout: Two medium and three small sized islands resembling the Philippine Islands. Weather: Fog at dawn. Game Modes Island Capture: Designed for large scale carrier battles. Both sides control up to three (!) carriers as mobile spawn points. Strong emphasis on the use of submarines. Competitive: A US carrier and enemy cargos are heading though an area controlled by Japanese submarines. Your task is to stop those cargo ships and their carrier escort. Heavy submarine oriented action. Siege: Allied forces are carrying out an amphibious operation in the Philippines. The US has to destroy the Japanese headquarters, whilst the Japanese must destroy the US carrier. Escort: A damaged South Dakota class battleship is stranded near an island. US players must protect the battleship and destroy the incoming Japanese carriers, whilst the Japanese side has to sink the US battleship and protect their own carriers. Duel: Classic duel mode, offering a tactical advantage to anyone making use of the rocky landscape and island formations for cover. Click for super size. I'm curious, do the new maps let us use units we don't get to normally see in Island Capture, like the New York or Fairey Swordfish? I was pleased to see De Ruyters on Midway.

Still, maps look AWESOME.

Considering the use of the descriptors "island capture" and "spawn points" without mention of point caps I think it's safe to assume this IS NOT the Midway mode we hoped for but I could be wrong. Still holding onto my cash until we know more.

LORD BLACKFIRE-Right from when these maps were announced they were supposed to be playable in all five existing games modes, so I don't know why you or anyone else would think these where going to be set piece Midway style battles.

David, it's amazing you seemed to know this for certain ahead of time (now that it's been stated). There was considerable speculation and Hail Mary hopes hung around Carrier Battles among the old harcore crowd. I don't recall you posting that it wouldn't include a Midway mode.

Definitely a good sign of things to come, hopefully the Hermes will become playable some day soon and not just a helpless dummy in Japanese Aviation Training. (
