"Eidos has briefed us on the July arrival of new units, maps and battles for Battlestations: Pacific.
The Mustang Pack, which costs 160 Microsoft Points (GBP 1.36 / EUR 1.92), arrives today. Inside are six new units and 18 new pieces of nose art, plus the ability to customise single- and multiplayer battles.
The US P-51 Mustang bomber, US Alaska Class ship and Japanese Super Yamato Class ship are examples of the machinery on offer. What do they do? Kill things.
The Carrier Battles Map Pack docks on 23rd July for 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60). Here we find four scenarios: a clash of carriers at Midway; a misty morning battle on the Philippine Islands; a Kamikaze attack in the rocky Leyte Gulf; and a mountainous and icy water skirmish on the Aleutian Islands."
The Kuma's are very very good. I've just sunk about half a dozen Montana's on Status Quo with them, the sea is FULL of torps.
Question for Mike if he reads this,
The Eurogamer blurb says "plus the ability to customise single- and multiplayer battles."
What does that mean ? I've looked at the host options and I can't see any new options, does that just mean by using new units we are customising our game ?
Gutted. My network connection is down until Monday, and I really want to try out the new units. Query for those lucky enough to have the new pack, how many torpedoes can the new version of the Kuma launch, and how many Command Points does it cost?
Sweet, and thanks for the quick reply. So you could put out 8 torpedo Kumas, fire a gigantic salvo of 320 torpedoes, and then repeat this twice before all the torpedoes are used up. Even 12 Shimakazes can only fire 180 torpedoes at a time with two reloads. With the control offered by four players each with a pair of cruisers, this could be absolutely devestating on the more ship focused maps. I guess these are going to start appearing alot in Duel too.
The customisation just refers to the fact that you can take these units into your single player missions as well as your musltipler sessions as unlocks, adding a great deal more variety to play. And different nose arts of course.

BSM-Style multiplayer scenarios?!?!?!
Am I misunderstanding this, or is that really what it is?!
I would love to buy all these new expansions, but for some reason windows live market place for PC keeps coming up with an error for about the past week
These sound like great addtitions reasonably pricing.
Looking forward to see them on PC.
As of now I can't see anything on the GWfL Marketplace... ...I guess patience is required.
I love the new units, and the Volcano maps. The Carrier Battles pack also seems like a good addition, as it sounds like it will change up the multiplayer a good bit.
I'm still hoping for an Atlantic Pack. This game already lets you take control of some of the best battleships ever built, and two that were never built. It's just begging for the Bismark class and the HMS Hood. Also, now that we have the Alaska class cruisers, it would be awesome to pit them against the enemy they were designed to fight, the German Pocket Battleships. And lets not forget the fun that only a German U boat can provide.
Has it not been released on the PC yet or something?
I don't see it on the games for Windows Live thing as new downloadable content. Either that or the list of new DLC just won't update for some reason. And the marketplace part doesn't work either. This SUCKS, I want to use the new units
Not to put to much of a point on it but . . . mycoldman . . . could you PLEASE give a simple yes or no reponse to the question regarding the new scenarios adding BSM style play, i.e. set piece battles minus autoaim?
If no, will we see that mode added at a later date?
You have to aim the guns at ships yourself or you will not hit anything. There would be little point playing if I did not point the guns myself. I've played BSP for a while now and every single game when I've manned the guns, I've had to aim them as well. They don't aim themselves.
I don't hear you moan about auto-elevation, but lead aim is such a huge deal, why is that ?
There is autoaim and there's no point in playing semantics. "Autoaim" is the term that has been used to describe the simplified gunnery of BSP in comparison to BSM since the demo came out here on these boards and elsewhere. I do not want to pay for a new game with better graphics but less challenge. Gameplay is more important to me than graphics. For me, mandated autoaim is like only having easy mode to play. It's just not for me.
These are pretty cool, although I find it hard to see a spot for the Torpedo Kuma when the Shimakaze already fills that role. I have a feeling one will end up replacing the other (more likely, the Torpedo Kuma replacing Shimakaze)
I was alerted this morning to a problem with the DLC going up on Games for Windows Marketplace at Microsoft's end. I am told it should be up within the hour.
I'm really sorry for the delay guys, we dont want you to miss out on these!
Thanks for the update mycoldman, at least we're sure it's a problem at their end and not on ours.
Yesterday I kept trying to get the download but the entire GfWL Marketplace was completely instable.
Whith regards to the Carrier MAP pack can we hope for some teaser before the release date? (gameplay video or at least a screenshot of the map / gameplay)
Another DLC pack already - and surprise surprise - we have to pay for it too.
Why do we have to pay for this DLC at all?
Why withhold content, only to charge for it a few weeks after release?
This is a good game but it seems I have wasted my money buying it.
Eidos - Think of it from the non rich customers perspective.
I saved up to get a game and now it seems I only have half the game. FUCKING RIP OFF.
Eidos is a greedy company and hopefully you go broke in a few years. You deserve it. You will not get anymore money from me.
I saved 2 friends who were about to buy this from wasting their money - doesn't help me much.
Please respect your customers and stop treating us like we are all rich kids using their parents credit card. Most of this content was ready before release and it was deviously withheld to extract more money from people who have already supported your company by buying this game.
The Mustang Pack cool BUT CAN NOT PLAY PEOPLE THAT DONT what sort of sad tactic is being played here, more $$$ ??..
ive got the unit pack but many DONT and they miss out on games and should be up to them if they want to vs its not a map pack..
Do we call it PRESSURE BUYING
Sad to see stuff like this ruin a GOOD game
EIDOS,,,, BATTLESTATIONS Players are only a small crew dont thin us out over maps & units too much..
I can't stop using these new Kuma Crusers, just nasty.
They wheren't kidding about the Mustangs being Ohka killers, I think I droped 20 Ohka Carriers in one match
i havn't heard the alaska being mentioned.
alaska, alaska, alaska, alaska.
alaska.
it is a pocket battleship, although it costs as much as a battleship (200 points)
this is the mogami killer though, and i've managed to get a 1:1 kill/death against fuso's with them.
montana isnt as good as super yamato, super yamato killed 12 KGV's and a whole bunch or northamptons (single player island capture on spine medium) i lost 2 supers on in that match.
same map, but playing as americans, with montanas. 4 of them sunk about 10 fusos, and a few mogamis, i lost 3 montanas.
the liz is awesome, but i dont think many people will use them, p51 is good, kuma is hilarious to look at.
great DLC
"Zorkin if you want to play with people that don't have the new units just have them host the room."
Who doesn't have 2$, seriously. Best 2$ I ever spent on DLC by the way
__________________________________________________________
OH you have done this and giving me a tip..
COZ I have already tried this but i couldnt use the new units that id payed for on a host with someone that doesnt...They cant join my game at all or i miss out on payed units...nice
Who cant afford $2, about a billion ppl on da hungry list
"SERIOUSLY"
So players with the new units can't use them unless the host also has the Mustang Pack, and players without the pack can't join a game hosted by someone who does have the units? This had better be fixed pretty quick with another patch or there will be alot of pissed off gamers.
Mustang DLC pack today and senarios on the 23rd
New DLC today and on the 23rd
