Cruisin' for trouble

Following on from our look at our newest Battleships from the Mustang pack, I figured we'd now take a look at the middleweights - definitely not to be underestimated.

Alaska Class

- The Alaska costs 200 points - this baby is both powerful and BIG.
- The Alaska is stronger than any of the other cruisers afloat – but her size does make for a slightly easier target.
- With a top speed of 28 knots, she's similar to other heavy cruisers – but in terms of maneuverability behaves almost like a battleship.
- The Alaska captures islands faster than other cruisers – just like a battleship.
- A 12-inch shell fired by the Alaska does almost as much damage as a normal battleship shell, thanks to the excellent build quality of the gun and projectile. Here's a simple formula to explain that further: More damage = more fun.
- The Alaska has the second best AA weaponry amongst the cruisers, the only better ship is the Atlanta, which while able to do serious damage to battleships and battlecruisers, lacks the armor protection for a direct engagement with enemy capital ships. Not so much a problem with the Alaska.
- Despite being almost as big as a battleship, the Alaska counts as a heavy cruiser in BS:P – you can request and build one everywhere you have access to heavy cruisers.
- You will almost certainly crack a smile when using the Alaska in single-player US missions.

- Against them, anything will do – treat them like battleships with less endurance. And of course, as always, don’t forget the subs.

Kuma Torpedo Cruiser

- The Kuma Torpedo Cruiser will set you back 150 points.
- The ship has a massive 40 torpedo tubes, 20 on each side. This is serious torpedo power. Imagine having more than one torpedo cruiser. :)
- The Kuma Torpedo Cruisers are similar to the standard Kuma in terms of armor and maneuverability.
- Unfortunately the AA guns weren’t replaced - so the Kuma Torpedo Cruisers still lack effective AA weaponry.
- Seaplanes and a gun turret were removed to make room for the torpedo tubes.
- Top tip! - Launch a deadly salvo of torpedoes first – then turn to the other side and launch another one for a devastating attack.
- Avoid getting too close to the enemy, as you can bet that they will always target you first.

- Against them use air power – as they only have four machine guns for air defense.
- And remember, the maximum range of the Long Lance torpedoes is just over 3000 meters or, 1.6 nautical miles. Try to launch your torps from the maximum range.

So there you have it. The times, they are a-changing... Next stop, the skies.

Not that I'm complaining about having the Alaska, because its a ship I really wanted to see, but this is like allowing the US to have Battlecruisers on maps where CAs are the biggest ships the Japanese can launch, and I don't think the torpedo Kuma is going to even this out.

That Kuma sounds like a winner.

I read your message! I suggest you check the options before! also you must be vigilant in the choice of units! that accompanies being a "carrier" is a battleship!
is paramount! must be ensured is back!
ps: the automatic reloading of options and support should not exist! is good for arcade battles!

These ships are great, as are the BB's and extra planes from this pack.

HOWEVER not allowing people who don't have the DLC to join a hosted server that's running it is MASSIVELY RETARDED!

THIS STUFF MAY AS WELL BE SINGLE PLAYER ONLY, BUGGERED IF I CAN FIND ANYBODY TO JOIN A SERVER ON PC WITH THIS CONTENT ENABLED.

Seriously Eidos, are you guys trying to break into comedy because these seems like a really bad joke...

IM not very impressed wi the cost o these new units , dont get me wrong i love the game loved midway also but u get 3 times as much in the way of updates in empires total war say" for 4 pound" not 14 or 12 pound in ms points" r summin .
It isnt realy for me im complaining mostly coldman" its for the youngest players who dont have money too get these or cant get money for them" and its certainly gonna kill the game " , also im not impressed wi the need the certain map or maps too join ur game" .In otherwords only people wi the same map packs i have them all btw ans the crappy p51" , and only managing 2 v 2 s at most in my dogfights due too lack of players able too join wi not having the map packs as i say".I was hoping that the last patch would sort that but nope"! no avail"!. :<
however i do love dogfighting in any o teh maps and have never been beaten as yet in an online dogfight on pacific wi my friends / clqannies or wioot them", i love the hurricane but it should b a bit better armoured in my opinion" and i was disapointed in having no seafires"! , the naval equivalant " for carriers wi the raf" brittish" , please add the mark15 seafire as a new unit and i dont need it but i would love the mark 21 or 22 spitfire" the hero and guardian o oor skys" ty.

I like the idea of all these ships, but basically the 12 inch gun was a Battleship Classification before the First World War, but if you had 2 Kuma torp Cruisers, allongside a Monatana, You ARE in trouble.

Do you need to bought that update or does it automat. update ?

2 things to say:

1. The Alaska-Class was called a large cruiser (CB) by the USN, but many say it's a CA.
2. The Kuma Torpedo Cruiser didn't exist, as with the Super Yamato class from the last new unit blog. (The Montana Class was never built.)

The Alaska was a CB (basically a dreadnought), but it was badass, and the CA is a perfect class to put it in. It's not as strong as a BB, nor as weak as a CL or CA. As for the Kuma, unless you have a stronger ship with it, you're pretty much screwed, even with the torpedoes.
